Gianyar presents third generation Sekaa Gong perfromance

During the City of Gianyar’s 245 anniversary celebrations held on Monday (Apr11), Sekaa Gong Dharma Kesuma Banjar Pinda and Sekaa Gong Anak-anak Kumara Gurnita Banjar Tengah presented innovative and inspiring performances that not only involved senior performers but also very young performers who were no less interesting.  

The performance began with the children’s sekaa gong show in which the Telu Batur Sari percussive piece was played. This tabuh or percussion piece was a musical expansion based on melodies taken classical lelambatan pegongan. Composer I Ketut Asnawa presented his artistic exploration that is clored by bith classical and contemporary nuances but still essentially adheres to tradition.

The second performance, presented the creative Cakra Wirang percussion creation that was then followed by a creative Dance piece that told the story of Sri Krishna wrathful destruction of greed. Head of the Cultural Council of Gianyar, I Gusti Ngurah Wijana was very impressed by this children’s sekaa gong performance. “It would appear that the younger generation will be bringing great changes”, he said.

Sekaa Gong Dharma Kesuma’s performance by three generations of performers (form the 80’s the 90’ and the millenials) was also warmly welcomed. This sekaa gong group is legendary in Ginayar and are fully supported by the Village of Pinda. They performed Lelambatan Pepunggelan melodies, the Tari Gadung Kasturi dance, the Tari Wiranata dance, the Tari Trunajaya dance and the Gaok Macok dance, all to great applause. (BTN/015)
