The World Culture Forum (WCF) 2016 will take place on October 10-14 in Nusa Dua. The agenda to be discussed is about subak that always lures people to know and learn more about the irrigation system on the Island of the Gods. “Delegates from around the world will also make a visit the Subak Jatiluwih,” said Director General of Culture, Hilmar Farid, amid the WCF preparations at the Hotel Aston Denpasar, Thursday (Sep. 22).

The visit of the cultural delegates will be able to have a closer look at the reality of subak. In other words, the meeting is not only focused on discussion in the room, but they are also taken to make a visit to the existence of subak in Bali. “Through this forum, we learn about the reality and have a pleasant discussion because it is filled with a variety of arts, exhibition, carnival and other cultural activities,” he explained.

According to Director General Hilmar, the subak system in Bali is unique and admired by community of the world. However, behind the fame, subak as Balinese traditional irrigation system even faced with non-easy problems. “All this time, subak is just celebrated as a sign of wisdom and virtue, but given less attention. Moreover, currently the subak is faced with many challenges,” he said.

The concept of the WCF meeting, said Hilmar is to get the concrete idea about the problems faced by subak. It also includes discussing the solutions for the current challenges faced by subak and the irrigation water. “Most likely there will be a resolution or statement to sustain the subak itself,” he said.
