Such is the atmosphere of countryside Tatag Hamlet, Kukuh Village, Marga Subdistrict, Tabanan. The hamlet, located about 18 km north of Denpasar is indeed still natural and unique. It is situated far from the hustles and bustles of the city and offers verdant views of rice fields in all directions.

Similarly, the hamlet preserves some large trees that provide the shade for all souls who pass under them. At each end of the hamlet, there are springs used for public drinking, bathing and washing.

Traditional cultural activities are also maintained. The local community still makes a variety of cakes like jaja begina, rice cones, used in oblation and for other ceremonial purposes. The people of this village engage in artistic activities such as drawing, dancing and playing Balinese traditional gamelan. The local villagers also routinely raise pigs and cattle. “These activities are attractive to foreign tourists” said Kukuh Headman, I Ketut Budiarta.

Indeed, the hamlet inhabited by a population of 389 people is often used for trekking by tourists. Aside from the beautiful natural surroundings of this village, meten -traditional ancient Balinese houses can also be found here. There are also jineng (rice granary), Balinese pavilions and classical style entrance gates. Tatatg is also strategically located very close to the tourist destination of Alas Kedaton. “Many of our people still cook in traditional manner” added the headman of Kukuh. .

 “Every week, there are tourists who strolle through the village –mostly form Europe. Other tourists ride bicycles to enjoy the special areas of this village.
