Sengkui is wickerwork or matting made from coconut leaf tip plaited in such a way resembling plaited coconut leaf roof but in smaller size. Sengkui is made in accordance with urip pengider (specified scores) with remaining to contain the end as the tail of the sengkui. Sengkui is typically used in the bhuta yajna ritual like mecaru where it is used as a base to place ebat-ebatan or caru oblations. Hindu community in Bali believes that sengkui can fly the ritual oblations to Dalem temple. Thus, the deity at Dalem Temple knows that his devotees have performed pecaruan ritual. So, he confers purificatory blessing to balance macrocosm and microcosm.(BTN)
