There is an interesting activity carried out by four Balinese artists who belong to the members of the Catur Wenara Rukem on the sidelines of the exhibition at one of the art galleries at Mas village, Ubud, recently.Even though they have been able to build their existence in the art domain, the artists consisting of Putu Sutawijaya, Made Sumadiyasa, Pande Ketut Taman and Made Mahendra Mangku are still willing to spare their time to look, observe and learn from the artists of the past.
Through this moment, at least they can get inspiration, energy and new spirit of the artists who have been proved to work with sincerity so as to be able to put good reputation of Bali in the art domain.“We are obliged to learn a lot from the creative process of Balinese artists in the past. Of course, there are many valuable lessons to be learned from their works,” said Putu Sutawijaya.
One of the objects visited by the Catur Wenara Rukem is the studio of (the late) Wayan Teher located near Tanah Lot, Tabanan. In the studio of Balinese artist whose works are known to exude a very strong religious aura, the four artists of Catur Wenara Rukem with some other Balinese fellow artists seemed to be escorted into the nature of contemplation, search and re-discover of the footprints and spirit presented in the paintings of the deceased.
To end the session of their visit, the artists of Catur Wenara Rukem and a number of other Balinese artists took time to paint together in the area around Tanah Lot Temple. Obviously, they painted pursuant to their respective characteristics and school. In fact, their action received very enthusiastic attention from the public and travelers who happened to visit the Tanah Lot attraction.
In addition to visiting the Wayan Teher Studio, the artists of Catur Wenara Rukem also visited the Tantri Ceramic Museum at Pejaten, Kediri, Tabanan. Pioneer of this museum is one of the pioneers of the development of ceramic industry at Pejaten village so the name of this village is now well known to foreign countries as one of the quality ceramic products. As done at Tanah Lot, the artists of Catur Wenara Rukem also made a joint action of painting in the museum. However, this time they painted on ceramic medium. (BTN/kmb)
