Competition of hotel business is increasingly felt. Moreover, hotels have openly underpriced their rooms in front of competitors or colleagues. Surprisingly, more and more new hotels are appearing in numbers so that they trigger tighter competition. “I see the competition in hotel industry is increasingly difficult. Many new hotels emerge. Some hotels do rebranding because they are difficulty to survive in the competition,” said Yanti Rastiti, Assistant Sales Manager of The Sunset Hotel.

Yanti said that competition in room rates is no longer avoidable. Moreover, in the era of online booking, guests can directly compare hotel room rates via the internet or their mobile phone. Although there is an appeal not to underprice, in reality this practice always happens. “Now, we are looking for solutions to address it. Clearly we do not go along to underprice,” said the woman born in Denpasar on November 14, 1993.

She admitted that she cannot avoid price competition. However, her management has had a special strategy namely by not decreasing standards of quality. Due to good quality of service hotel can get repeater guests. “Other than having staff extending good hospitality, the service I mean here include facilities as well as sanitation of the rooms and hotel area, sanitation of linen, air conditioning maintenance, quality Wi-Fi and others,” she explained.

As evidence, Yanti said that in 2016 the number of repeater guests at Sunset Hotel increased significantly. “That is one of the indicators that low price does not suggest the only determining factor for guests to choose a hotel,” said this employee who started her career from Sales Administrator or E-commerce Department.

Currently, Yanti is working while attending undergraduate program at English Department at STIBA Saraswati Denpasar, so that she has a challenge in terms of time management. Moreover, as a salesperson she should be ready to meet the target and deadlines. Not to mention, she must also be ready to meet her hotel clients any time, even if she must sacrifice her recitation. “It is as part of improving the quality of my human resources. Most importantly, it is supported by determination and vivacity of the team,” she concluded. (BTN/015)
