Today, a resident of Bali in diaspora no longer feels upset, sad or homesick, especially during religious holidays. One of the Balinese residents who have been living in Europe, for instance, said that in the past he longed for going home during holidays. Right now, although the feeling remains to exist it is not like what he felt before.
Currently, he said, in Europe there are many Balinese people and so are sanctums or temples. Thus, he added, it is not as sad as he used to be when coinciding with religious holidays in diaspora like on Galungan, Kuningan, Nyepi and others. There have been a lot of Balinese societies spreading overseas. They can gather and exchange stories.
They can still conduct religious and customary activities overseas like preparing lawar delicacy, praying at temples, playing gamelan, dancing and so on. Other than in Europe, they also spread in various parts of the world like in the United States, Asia, Australia and many more. Currently, Bali people overseas are really able to carry out religious devotion and customs of their home land. They keep the home village tradition overseas.
For those living outside Bali, but remain in the regions of Indonesia, have been much better. Temples have almost been available across the country, especially in big cities. When their longing is unbearable, many modes of transportation are available to return home. So, they can feel the vibration of their ancestral land directly. It has been much different and the sense is expected approximately the same.
Celebrating holiday overseas is indeed different, but the essence obtained is the same. It is the expression of gratitude to God for all the graces bestowed. Thank to the ancestors for all the legacies given. As the current generation, we are just taking care of and preserving it.
We that live in Bali and those living overseas have the same task to keep this heritage from being crushed by the era. We must work together so that Bali still exudes a unique charm as a unique island along with its various advantages.
Being Balinese people living overseas are an option and very good. Living and working in Bali while preserving religion, culture and customs is also an excellent option. We mutually remind and preserve our valuable heritages.
