ATUH …., this word does not mean ‘surprised’ or ‘complained’ in Balinese language as it usually happens in the life of Balinese people. The ATUH here is an abbreviation for the ‘Art The Universal Habit’ as a representative of a location, the object passed by the artist as a refreshing activity. The word ATUH was then appointed as the theme featured by the Militant Art Exhibition at Griya Santrian Gallery.

The exhibition was opened by Regent of Klungkung, I Nyoman Suwirta, on Friday (Jul 7) and will last until September 15. There are a total of 25 creative artists of Bali that respectively will show off their best works. Although the idea and the strokes are different, they present the painting with the same size namely 150 x 130 cm. All these works are new from the refreshing activities conducted together on Atuh Beach, Nusa Penida.

The artists coalesced into the members of the Militant Art are Nyoman Sujana Kenyem, Diwarupa, Supena, Made Kaek, Putu Sudiana Bonuz, Sugantika, Gusti Buddha, Made Wiradana, Teja Astawa, Wayan Suastama, Kabul Suasana, Edy Asmara, Atmi Kristiadewi, Uuk Paramartha, Dolar Astawa, Kenak Dwi Adyana, Pande Paramartha, Anthok S, Kadek Eko Agus Murdika, Gung De Eka Putra Dela, Ngurah Paramartha, Made Gunawan, Pande Alit Wijaya and Somya Pradbawa.

Kenyem said that Atuh Beach in Nusa Penida becomes the object for the new artwork. His attitudes and habits as well as that of other artists have enriched the inspiration in the activities during at the location to be expressed in their respective studio. “The theme is a discourse of a psychological form of the group in the artistic life and not just a visualization of natural beauty of Atuh Beach alone,” he explained.

According to Kenyem, the word ATUH is later spoofed into the Art The Universal Habit as an expression of habit, art ritual of the Militant Art by refreshing, capturing the moment, the relationship to the ruler of nature. Opening of the exhibition was also graced with the performance by Komang Suwirta entitled Mystical Rhythm and Dewa Dadang and video playback of the Militant Art by Gus Hari. (BTN/15)
