Villagers of Kukuh, Marga subdistrict, Tabanan, know very well about how to maintain the Alas Kedaton tourist attraction. In addition to keeping the area clean, safe and comfortable they also hold ceremonies on appointed days to maintain a harmonious vibration. creating sanitation, safety and comfort, it also holds ceremonies on the appointed holy days. It starts with their temple anniversary at Khayangan Dalem Kedaton on Tumpek Kandang, Tumpek Uye, full moon, new moon and Kajeng Kliwon.

Managemanet, local merchants and everyone else who relies on monkeys, bats and local plants, also give offerings every day before doing any activities at the tourist destination. “The ceremony is meant to ask for the safety of visitors, employees, merchants and the forests along with their inhabitants”, said Chief of the Management Board, I Wayan Semadi.

On the temple anniversary of Dalem Khayangan Kedaton that falls on Anggara Kasih Medangsia, there is the ngerebek tradition which involves all the villagers in Kukuh. Tumpek Kandang provides and especially interesting point of interest for tourists. The management of the tourist attraction and members of the local community offer a giant stack of assorted fruit (gebogan woh-wohan). In addition to small gebogan, there is also a big gebogan reaching nearly two meters high.

The gebogan is sanctified at Dalem Khayangan Kedaton and then paraded arround the middle courtyard of the temple three times. After that, there is the mapeed gebogan in the outermost temple courtyard. “The mapeed gebogan becomes an attraction for tourists. They perpetuate the tradition in the form of video and photo. The Mapeed atmosphere is always festive and accompanied by a baleganjur gamelan orchestra”, said Semadi.

According to Semadi, the ceremony of the gebogan parade is a form of implementing the concept of Tri Hita Karana (harmony of human relations to the Creator, fellow humans and the environment). The making of the great gebogan composed of assorted local fruits is carried out by the people of Kukuh through mutual cooperation. (BTN/015)
