“Actually, tourism industry is a service industry, where the role of human resources is the spearhead of the success or failure of the industry in addition to qualified products complying with the market demand,” said I Nyoman Prabawa, General Manager of SereS Springs Resort & Spa.
“To that end, the improvement of human resource skills in achieving professional staff is a priority in the development of human resources at this hotel, and we have done it since the beginning of employee’s recruitment,” added Prabawa.
This Lombok-born man has been in the hospitality industry since the age of 19 years old. At first, he started his career as dishwasher and at the age of 38 years he already occupied the position as General Manager in 2013.
An interesting thing about Prabawa is in improving the quality of human resources at SereS Springs Resort & Spa where the enactment of punishment in the form of fines to all the employees in improving discipline.
Moreover, Prabawa does not hesitate to fine his staff if they break the rules. Surely, this is fair where the disciplined employees will get rewards. Meanwhile, those who are not disciplined will receive punishment, even he was also once imposed with fine.
In educating staff, Prabawa, who is entrusted to be the President Director of PT. Sutra Sejahtera as the owning company of SereS Springs Resort & Spa, will do through informal pattern, where the staff interacting with him will get direction, while formally the management holds the training every week in each department.
SereS Springs Resort & Spa currently employs 92 people, where 40 percent of them are the surrounding community. “It is a challenge for me because they are averagely graduates of high school. Certainly they will need more education to make them more disciplined and professional. I want they will no longer become spectators but must be able to compete to attain the best in their own region,” affirmed Prabawa who are still single.
SereS Springs Resort & Spa is a luxurious five-star resort whose design was inspired by the culture, traditions and activities being rich in the nuances of Balinese rituals. It is located in the midst of valleys, rivers, verdant waterfalls, and surrounded by paddy fields in the area of Jukut Paku of Ubud.
The resort was carefully and uniquely designed through the embodiment of Balinese architectural style and the layout is evident throughout this hotel environment where it always refers to the implementation of Tri Hita Karana (THK) concept of harmony and balance supported by harmonious relation of humans with fellow humans, nature and God.
