After sending barong ket to be participated in the parade of the Hataka Dontaku Festival in Fukuoka, Japan, late April and early May of this year, one of the elders of the Denpasar-Fukuoka Brotherhood, I Gusti Kompyang Pujawan, in fact kept another obsession associated with the prestigious parade held each year in the country of Samurai.
“If God blesses this step, I’d love to send the Barong Landung to complete the barong and mask collection in Fukuoka,” he said in the handover of his barong ket to Japan through the students of Raj Yamuna. Previously, this former chairman of the Indonesian Tour Guides Association (HPI) Bali said the brotherhood party had sent Rangda, Punta and Kartala mask to Japan to be included in the Dontaku parade last year. Like the Rangda and Barong Ket, the presence of Barong Landung in Bali also had its own story which would be surely very interesting.
“Considering the enthusiasm of Japanese society at that time, then we sent a barong ket. Hopefully, Barong Landung will follow,” he said. This friendship, according to him, should be reinforced constantly by making cooperation in various fields ranging from the education, culture and employment. Pujawan also invited all the elements in Bali to continually develop the brotherhood with anybody. It was not only made with Japanese people, but also with other countries in the world. Even, with other regions in Indonesia because Bali needed to work together. “By all means, it has become our collective interest to bring along Balinese society towards a better condition, namely more prosperous in every way,” he hoped.
