Performing Arts on Ayung River

Performing Arts on Ayung RiverThe steep and thrilling Ayung River is commonly known by the lovers of rafting adventure. However, on Saturday night (Feb 23), the ambience of river located at Kutaraga hamlet, Bongkasa village, Badung, looked very different. The river frequently giving amazing experience through the adventure program was transformed into a stage of the art performance. All the visitors were pampered with the appearance of installation arts, collaboration up to contemporary dance.

Such art presentation was commenced with a purificatory ritual as well as invocation of safety officiated over by local village priest. The art presentation was divided into three scenes staged at three different places. All the viewers wishing to watch the show should explore down the river. At that time, six boats along with the instructor had been prepared to transport visitors along 4 km.

First of all, the show of installation art was presented on the asphalt rock entitled ‘The Knight Kingdom of River Dance featuring 15 dancers. It was accompanied with traditional gamelan music only supported with torch lighting. On the next journey, visitors could watch another dance attraction. This one entitled ‘The River Life Dance’ depicting various animals and existing residents in the path of the Ayung River. A total of 25 dancers came with expressive performance under the bridge.

After 25 minutes of the journey, the groups of visitors were spoiled again with the art presentation. Precisely at Campuhan, a stage in the ultimate rock showed off an amazing art attraction. The colossal art composition was a perfect fusion of Javanese and Balinese art. Approximately 80 dancers with torch light looked so fantastic.

The art presentation was very interesting. The concept of staging exuded magical nuance being inseparable from the haunted atmosphere of the river path. The supporting artists had a wealth of experience such as from the Cudamani Dance Studio Ubud led by Dewa Berata, Singa Cakrawala troupe, Cahya Art Dance Studio led by Ketut Lanus, students of the ISI Denpasar, and numerous dancers from Bongkasa village.

Ivan Syarifuddin serving as the creative director of the art revealed the staging was the first time. “We’re trying to package an adventure activity with a series of cultural performances,” said Ivan accompanied by I Wayan Dharma serving as a creative adventure. (BTN/015)
