Cremation Ceremony at Monkey Forest on September 21 2013The preparation for mass cremation ceremony or ngaben in Mandala Wisata Wenara Wana tourism site (DTW) attracts the attention of the tourists. The preparation of the ceremony such as ngulapin, nanceb, nuasen, negtegan and nyangling is closely watch by the tourists. The ceremony itself will be held on Saturday, September 21, 2013.

The Manager of the place Putu Suartika said that the preparation of the ceremony give the tourists another interesting attraction. They not only can see the monkeys but also one of the cultural activities done by the Hindus in Bali. “Most of the tourists don’t want to pass the moment,” he added.    

The DTW which is known as Sacred Monkey Forest Sanctuary is one of the favorite tourism site in Bali. The forest which has many kind of trees and there is also a temple in it, makes the sanctuary a great place to be visited. Started from Pura Dalem Agung Padang Tegal, Prajapati and Pura Beji which has high volume of water become the attraction for the tourists.  

There are around 80 bodies which will be cremated during the ceremony. This is only a symbol because most of the bodies were already buried in the area. During the ceremony, the corpse will be accompanied by the puppet of animals such as cow, elephant, lion, fish and others which is in accordance with the Klan of each of the dead. The number of the puppet animals is around 30. “The cemetery of Padang Tegal is located  right in middle of the forest so the activity is done there,” Suartika said.    (BTN/015)
