200 Japanese Surfers Explore the Waves of Keramas Beach
Japan Pro Surfing Association (JPSA) came again to organize the annual Japan Pro Surfing Tour (JPST) on Keramas Beach, Blahbatuh, Gianyar (Nov 7). The event took place on November 7-14 and followed by 200 male and female surfers denoting the result of selection from hundreds of best surfers in Japan last July.
Chairman of the JPSA Organizing Committee, Ida Bagus Rai, explained the competition was divided into three criteria, including long boards, short boards, and legend board. Later, the champion would be determined based on the results of the tour in Bali.
Meanwhile, the Head of Gianyar Government Tourism Office, A.A. Ari Brahmanta, explained that Keramas Beach was one of the beaches having the best waves for the implementation of the world surfing event. Even, the Keramas Beach had frequently hosted the international surfing events, such as the JPSA, Billabong and so on, and no less than three international surfing events had been organized here.
“In addition to Keramas Beach, other beaches in Gianyar region offering the characteristics of good waves for surfing are the beach located on the border of Gianyar and Denpasar, Pabean Beach, and Cucukan Beach. Frequent international competitions on the four beaches had consequently engendered some local surfers. To give a chance for the local surfers to show off their ability, Ari Brahmanta planned to hold a surfing event for local athletes on the implementation of the Gianyar’s anniversary,” he added.
Following the inauguration of JPST, the Regent of Gianyar, Tjokorda Oka Artha Ardhana Sukawati congratulated the athletes getting involved in the competition. Even, the regent was very happy with the implementation of JPST event because the activity could promote Gianyar and Bali in general. Aside from being well known for the arts and culture, Gianyar also had a natural potential for sporting activities such as surfing. After the activity of the athletes, the organizers could promote Keramas and Gianyar as one of the best beaches in the world on account of having excellent waves for surfing. (BTN/015)
