Not surprisingly, if many travelers say that Bali is an island never devoid of ritual activities. All the time, there are religious attractions drawing the admiration of many tourists. One of them is cultural event held some time ago in Gianyar Regency. Thousands of residents of Blahbatuh customary village, Blahbatuh Subdistrict took part in the mapeed jerimpen procession (carrying jerimpen) on Monday (May 14). The procession was still in the series of ritual held in the village temple of Blahbatuh implying to invoke fertility and prosperity.

Jerimpen is a means of ritual made of bamboo and equipped with tubers and snacks as well as decorative ornament of young coconut leaf. It was carried by residents while walking around the village. Chief of Blahbatuh customary village, I Wayan Kantor, said that significance of the ritual was to invoke fertility and prosperity for the village of Blahbatuh in particular, and Bali in general.

Such tradition had been set forth in the agreement of customary community held every five years. Aside from carrying jerimpen, the ritual procession of surrounding the hamlet territory was also accompanied with baleganjur gamelan music. It signified if the tradition had begun and so had the invocation of prosperity. (BTN/kmb)
