Eleven participants of the Miss World 2013 enjoyed the Tanah Lot tourist attraction at Beraban village, Kediri subdistrict, Friday afternoon (Sep 6). Those beautiful girls from different parts of the world were accompanied by Miss World 2012 from China, Wenxia Yu. They did not only enjoy the beauty of the Tanah Lot temple nestling in middle of the Indian Ocean, but also took time to shop in one of the art shops owned by local people.
The pretty girls made a visit to Tanah Lot around 3:00 p.m. They went straight on foot from their accommodation at the Pan Pacific Hotel across the Hole 7 of the Nirwana Bali Resort (NBR) golf course leading to Tanah Lot Temple. It was about 500 meters from the hotel to the Tanah Lot. Participants of the beauty pageant were welcomed by the Operations Manager of Tanah Lot tourist attraction, Ketut Toya Adnyana.
Afterward, they were given an explanation regarding the Tanah Lot as universal temple of Balinese residents. A participant of the Miss World 2013 expressed her admiration for the beauty of Tanah Lot tourist attraction. “It is for the first time I see an old temple in the middle of the sea. It’s really wonderful,” said the beautiful oriental-looking woman.
After enjoying the beauty of the Tanah Lot Temple, Miss World participants then made a visit to Bali Agung shop offering typical souvenirs of Bali at Tanah Lot. Miss England Kirsty Heslewood proudly showed off a blue T-shirt reading I Love Bali. Not only that, the other participants came to the art shop and purchased a set of cat. Some others purchased knitted clothes.
A set of cat was purchased at IDR 50,000, while the knitted cloth at USD 15. The lucky trader to be visited by Miss World 2013 was Putu Agus Windu Tama, 23. “I am very proud that my merchandise becomes the collection of the beauty pageant,” he said.
When having a promenade to Tanah Lot, the contestants of the Miss World 2013 got layered security. Aside from the officers of the Tabanan Police, the committee also assigned its security forces. Not to be outdone, the pecalang or customary village security taskforce and security of the Tanah Lot were also alerted. Police officers looked to guard at some points along with tear gas. Meanwhile, the special police escort rode sophisticated scooter. When having promenade to the art shop, a policewoman accompanied the participants of Miss World.
Meanwhile, visitors that wanted to enjoy the beauty of Tanah Lot huddled in the driveway because they also wanted to see in person the participants of Miss World 2013. Such moment was taken advantage to take pictures of each Miss World 2013 contestant, though should get the photo with difficulty. They enjoyed the beauty of Tanah Lot tourist object for approximately one hour. After shopping at the Art Shop owned by Agus Windu Tama, they got into three luxury cars provided by the committee.
Operations Manager of the Tanah Lot tourist attraction, Ketut Toya Adnyana, admitted to be proud of the visit of the Miss World 2013. He had confidence the visit would have a positive impact because the participants had indirectly promoted Tanah Lot to all parts of the world. Expected, the number of tourist arrival at Tanah Lot would be increasing after the visit of the Miss World 2013. “We are confident the visit of Miss World to Tanah Lot will be able to increase the number of tourist arrival to the object we manage. Indirectly they will promote Tanah Lot,” said Toya.
Toya added the committee had requested the Tanah Lot to be sterile as would be visited by the participants of the beauty pageant. However, Toya did not grant the request of the committee because it was difficult to hold the visitors as it could result in bad impression. He also convinced the committee that Tanah Lot was secure to be visited because police had been professional in maintaining the security for international visits.
He was grateful because the organizer was confident and eventually took the participants of the Miss World 2013 to visit Tanah Lot tourist attraction. “We also assure that Tanah Lot is secure. Aside from involving police officers, the safeguarding also engages pecalang,” said Toya. (BTN/015)
