Sarasvati Day in Agung Shanti Bhuvana Temple, Belgium
Approximately 200 Balinese Hindu devotees from Belgium, France, Holland, Germany and Indonesia celebrated Sarasvati Day in the Agung Shanti Bhuvana Temple, Belgium, Saturday (Jun 16). It was to commemorate the coming down of knowledge (vidya) to the earth. The ritual event was organized in cooperation of the Balinese Hindu in Belgium and beyond with the Honorary Consul General of Indonesia to the Wallonia Region or CEO of the Parc Pairi Daiza, Indonesian Embassy in Brussels, and the royal family of Ubud. Sarasvati of this time had its own significance because it coincided with the fourth anniversary of the temple and the presence of the sanctified Barong effigy presented by the royal family of Ubud.
Religious ritual in the Agung Shanti Bhuvana in the Indonesia Park (the Kingdom of Ganesha), Parc Pairi Daiza, officiated over by Ida Pedanda Gede Putra Telapah from Ubud was organized from Friday night (Jun 15). Barong performance by the residents of Ubud at the peak of Sarasvati prayers on June 16, 2012 amazed hundreds of visitors to the Indonesia Park. Appearance of the Saling Asah Gamelan Troupe directed by Brussels Embassy also added the excitement of the Sarasvati celebration this year.
Ubud royal family led by Tjokorda Gde Raka Sukawati had entrusted the Indonesian Ambassador to Brussels to hand over a set of Barong effigy that had been ritualized in the Agung Shanti Bhuvana Temple, Pairi Daiza, as the completeness of the temple where the Hindus worshipped.
The ambassador hoped the placement of sanctified Barong in the Agung Shanti Bhuvana Temple would add the value to the greatest Balinese Hindu temple outside Indonesia and could become a venue to preserve the Hindu traditions by Balinese Hindus living in Belgium and other European countries. Meanwhile, the Honorary Consul of the RI as the owner of the Pairi Daiza Park conveyed his sincerity to preserve the temple as a sanctum for Hindus in Belgium and beyond. (BTN/*)
