Ulun Danu Art Festival held in Bedugul for Two Months
Lake Beratan situated in Tabanan Regency does not only offer beautiful and charming panorama, but also becomes a silent witness of the Ulun Danu Beratan Art Festival (UDBAF) taking place for two months. Indeed, it is the first time and supported by the artist community around the lake.
“This festival is designed to develop the local potential of Ulun Danu Beratan, Bedugul,” said Chief Operational Management of Ulun Danu Beratan tourist attraction, I Wayan Mustika. The UDBAF was held for two months starting from July 4 to August 30, 2012.
However, the art and cultural performances are only held on particular days tailored to the tourist season such as on holidays and other festivals. Venue of the performance is in the Wantilan Hall, at the outermost courtyard of the Ulun Danu Beratan Temple. The dances presented are including the Joged Bumbung, Mask Dance, Okokan traditional gamelan music, Rejang Dance and Genjekan a cappella.
According to Mustika, all kinds of the dance belonged to the satakan (community) of Ulun Danu Beratan. The event is to preserve the distinctive arts becoming the cultural asset of the Ulun Danu Beratan community. The ongoing UDBAF involved all the supporting devotees of Ulun Danu Beratan namely the satakan community of Baturiti, Bangah, Antapan and Candi Kuning. The four units of satakan had 18 customary villages
Despite having restricted funds, namely only relying on 5 percent of the object promotional funds, Mustika hoped the UDBAF could become an annual event. It is very important because so far people only know if at the Ulun Danu Beratan only has a lake with the original scenery and temple. In the future, his party will not only present various dances, but also other activities such as canoe race, traditional food, oblation making contest, plaiting and other local cultural uniqueness.
The Regent of Tabanan, Ni Putu Eka Wiryastuti, when opening the event on Wednesday (Jul 4) also hoped the cultural extravaganza could become an annual event. It is a creative and innovative breakthrough to introduce the Ulun Danu Beratan tourist attraction to wider community. (BTN/015)
