Two-Time Michelin Star Chef at Banyan Tree Ungasan, Bali
Banyan Tree Ungasan, Bali’s signature restaurant, Ju-Ma-Na, hosted two-time Michelin starred chef Frank Seyfried from restaurant Luce d’Oro at Schloss Elmau in Germany, 3 – 10 August 2012. The launch of the event was celebrated by Bali’s many gourmands and food critics, Jakarta socialites, dignitaries and members from the region’s German expatriate community.
Seyfried is regarded as one of Germany’s most prominent rising stars, revered for pushing gastronomic boundaries with his creations. Together with Ju-Ma-Na’s own highly acclaimed team, the combined powerhouse of culinary talent will offer a multi-course set menu, special degustation menu and à la carte dishes that feature chef Seyfried’s French cuisine with regional German influences.
“Cooking at Ju-Ma-Na is a great honour. I am eager to introduce a new perspective to Bavarian cuisine that highlights its modern and sophisticated edge. Expect the unexpected, including plenty of fresh flavours and unusual combinations such as foie gras with eggplant, ” he said. He continued, “Bali offers an exotic melting pot of spices, flavours and traditional cooking methods as well as reputable world-class restaurants.
As a chef you constantly taste, test and explore. Picking up cooking tips is the best souvenir I could ask for so that I might then return home and incorporate these elements into my new creations. ” Translated as ‘Silver Pearl’ in Arabic, Ju-Ma-Na is poised majestically 70 meters above the Indian Ocean on Bali’s southernmost cliffs, and features panoramic views along with a French menu with Japanese culinary accents.
Guests may observe chefs at work in the open kitchen, or opt for a table on the terrace featuring dramatic cliff-edge scenery. The contemporary Ju-Ma-Na bar offers sundowners and inventive cocktails, along with Mediterranean-inspired finger food and shishas (water pipes).
Critically acclaimed Restaurant Luce d’Oro in Schloss Elmau, Germany, has garnered numerous awards including: Michelin Star 2011, 2012; and recognition by: Bertelsmann Guide, Der Feinschmecker, Varta Guide Three Diamonds including Varta Tip, Aral Schlemmer Atlas, Gault Millau and the European Restaurant Ranking by www.restaurantranglisten.de.
