Bali Safari Park, an animal conservation organization in Bali, also held the Tumpek Uye or Tumpek Kandang ceremony on Saturday (Mar 25). The ceremony was centered in the Banyan Area of Bali Safari Park at 16:30 Local Time and could be witnessed by visitors to Bali Safari Park. Tumpek Kandang is commemorated every 6 months (210 days) based on Balinese calendar precisely falling on Saniscara (Saturday) Kliwon Wuku Uye as an expression of gratitude to Sang Hyang Rare Angon, the God of Animals.
The prayer procession was led by the temple priest and attended by animal keepers and animals at Bali Safari Park. The participating animals included baby of orangutans, snakes, birds, cows, iguanas, ponies and Sumatran elephants. The animals were prayed for while sprinkling them with holy water.
Ayudis Husadhi as the Husbandry Manager of Bali Safari Park stated: “The implementation of the Tumpek Kandang celebration is a form of our gratitude to God. At Bali Safari Park itself, the ceremony is also a form of affection for the animals we care for. Through this prayer, we pray that the animals in Bali Safari Park can live healthily, prosperously and can reproduce well.”
Previously, Bali Safari Park had succeeded in breeding various endangered animals. In the past year, 16 komodo dragons already hatched naturally at the Bali Safari Park in March 2022, and a babirusa baby was born in May 2022. For information, in 2021 at Bali Safari Park, 2 hyena babies, 1 zebra chapman baby and 1 pygmy hippo baby were successfully born.
Moreover, on April 9, 2023, Bali Safari Park will commemorate the birthday of the baby of giraffe that was successfully born at Bali Safari Park in 2020 and now it is 3 years old, namely Corona. “We hope that by carrying out the Tumpek Kandang ceremony at Bali Safari Park, wild animals can continue to be sustainable and grow well, so as to create a balance of nature and ecosystems on earth,” she hoped.
