Bali returned to receive a world-class award and this time the TripAdvisor through its annual Travelers’ Choice Award for Destinations, named the Island of the Gods as the second most popular destination in the world for 2023, surpassing London in third and Paris in fifth position. In response to this, the Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy/Head of Tourism and Creative Economy Agency, Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno, during The Weekly Brief with Sandi Uno, at the Sapta Pesona Building, Jakarta, on Tuesday (Jan 24) explained that he appreciated the Island of the Gods remaining the top of mind for tourists to travel. “Bali rose two ranks, from fourth in 2022 to the second in 2023, by beating London in third and Paris in fifth position,” he said.
Minister Sandiaga also explained that the rating indicators for the Travelers’ Choice Award for Destinations were based on the quality and quantity of reviews during the period of November 2021-October 2022. Apart from global rankings, there are also sub-categories of accommodation, restaurants and other interesting things to do at tourist spots. “The task of Bali is to become a feeder for the other five Super Priority Destinations (SPDs). This is an achievement for which we should be grateful. Hopefully, in the future other destinations than Bali in Indonesia will also develop,” he said.
Apart from that, Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy also added that destinations other than the Island of the Gods could be included in the list as the most popular destinations for tourists’ vacation choices. “Moreover, we hope destinations in Indonesia can reach the first place as world’s popular destinations in the following years,” he hoped.
On that occasion, the event was also attended by all echelon I and II ranks within the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy. Here are the complete destinations included in the top 10 most popular destination in the world for 2023 by TripAdvisor: 1) Dubai, United Arab Emirates; 2) Bali, Indonesia; 3) London, England; 4) Rome, Italy; 5) Paris, France; 6) Cancun, Mexico; 7) Crete, Greece; 8) Marrakech, Morocco; 9) Dominican Republic; and 10) Istanbul, Turkey.
