To preserve the environment, Hotel Nikko Bali Benoa Beach released 99 turtle hatchlings into the open sea in the Benoa Beach area recently. This action is one of the resort’s sustainability programs in response to nature conservation, especially in Bali. “We found 118 turtle eggs last August 12 on this beach which is right in front of our resort. Then, we collect and bury them in the sand by recording the date. It took about 45 days for the eggs to hatch. However, it turned out that the eggs hatched earlier than expected,” said Masaya Hasebe, General Manager of Hotel Nikko Bali Benoa Beach.
He added that turtles have a strong instinct in determining location and tracking, as evidenced by the return of the mother turtle to lay her eggs on this beach after the first discovery in 2018. The spiritual meaning of the turtle is to find a way to move forward and pass through tough times. Likewise, it symbolizes longevity, perseverance, steadfastness, protection, retreat, healing, serenity, Earth, and transformation. We love being trusted by their instincts to preserve and monitor the eggs until they are released back into the high seas.
The turtle release event was witnessed directly by the Head of the Bali Natural Resources Conservation Agency, Agus Budi Santoso, resort guests, and local residents. The resort management also planned to further expand its sustainability program to achieve more actions to save the planet. (BTN/014)
