Just like combat troops. The participants continued to hunt tirelessly. They did not only pick up in coastal areas, but also in the bushes to those hidden under rocks. That is the spirit of the participants of the Beach Clean-Up centered in the area of Perancak Beach, Jembrana, last Sunday (Feb 20). “Caring for the environment in commemoration of the National Waste Care Day (HPSN) 2022 in Jembrana District, even involves several youth and youth organizations,” said Secretary of the Indonesia Hotel and Restaurant Association (PHRI) of Jembrana Chapter, Ni Made Ayu Dwi Aryati.
This clean-up action was initiated by the Ambenan Ijo Gading Tourism Awareness Group (Pokdarwis) with the theme “Perancak Beach Clean-Up” specifically to collect plastic waste. Apart from being an eyesore, plastic waste can also damage soil fertility. The participants involved amounted to hundreds of people, consisting of the Jembrana Environmental Service, PHRI, IPNU & IPPNU of Jembrana District, youth of Ketugtug East Loloan, Pokdarwis Ambenan Ijogading, East Loloan Youth, Mrs. Widiastari and HPSN sympathizers. “Through this National Waste Care Day celebration, we are trying to raise awareness about waste management, especially at the household level,” she said.
Ayu Dwi Aryati stated that the condition of the plastic waste at Perancak Beach at that time was very sad. So much plastic waste was collected by all participants. It is the intention of the people who do throw garbage in the wrong place on the beach whereas the container has been provided. When walking along Perancak Beach towards Air Kuning the conditions are the same. The garbage is not shipping waste, but is household waste intentionally dumped on the beach, so that when the tide is high, the seawater picks up the garbage. “Therefore, education is very important to be done from an early age. We at PHRI will conduct education to elementary schools in Jembrana,” she said. (BTN/015)
